SPLOST funds are available to renovate the interior of the Old Jail with the goal of it becoming a hub in the preservation of the history of Newton County. Bids will soon go out for an architect and contractor. An independent group will be formed to create a history center in that space consisting of Historical Society  members as well as other members of the community.

Members have been working in the summer and fall of 2017 to establish a museum at the Brick Store featuring interpretive panels of the Brick Store area. There are several display cases of the type which might have been in the store originally. There is also a display of early farming tools and an arrowhead and spear point collection from our area. A well attended open house was held there on October 22nd to share these items with the residents of the county.

The History of Newton County, a book compiled by the Society in 1988 is close to becoming history itself, as there are very few copies left for sale. Members are looking into the feasibility of having it digitized.  Good News, the digitized copy of The History of Newton County, is now available for $10.00.  Please send an email to nchsarchives@gmail.comPaypal is accepted.
