The purpose of the archives is to preserve documents, photographs and objects pertaining to the history of Newton County. A committee is actively working to organize and assess current materials. Donations of historical material pertaining to the county and its history are accepted, as well as genealogical material.  Although the archives is not currently open on a regular basis, inquiries of specifics may be made by emailing



The archives recently received a donation of books compiled by John Bruno. These include Newton County marriage licenses 1822-1903, three volumes of minutes of the Inferior court dating 1822-1857, two volumes of Estate Records 1822-1900, and Public School Lists 1838-1866. There are also two volumes of Jasper County Deed Records. These books are for sale and inquiries may be made at the above email address.
